Volkswagen ID.4 novated lease and the FBT cliff
for the dearer variants

The Pro is under $75,000 and keeps the full exemption until 31 March 2029 under the draft. The GTX sits between $75,000 and $91,661: full exemption only if you commit by 31 March 2027, then a 25% discount. That GTX price is drive-away, though, and the value FBT uses leaves out registration, stamp duty and CTP, so it may turn out to be under $75,000.
What to know about the Volkswagen ID.4
Volkswagen sells the ID.4 on campaign drive-away prices, $65,990 for the Pro and $75,990 for the sportier GTX, national figures in white paint for cars bought from 1 October and delivered by 31 December 2026. No list price before on-road costs appears on its site, so we test those drive-away figures, knowing they overstate what FBT counts.
The GTX is the borderline case. It is less than a thousand dollars over $75,000 on a price that includes registration, CTP and duty, which together almost certainly come to more than that, so its value is probably under the line. Without a confirmed figure we still file it in the 2027 band; the dealer's itemised price settles it.
The Pro, quoted at 546 km, is clear of the line whichever way you count. The campaign price applies only to white cars, so another colour adds to both the price and the value FBT uses.
