What to know about the Tesla Model Y

The six-seat Model Y L is the variant to watch. Its trim price of $74,900 looks like it slips under $75,000, but Tesla's own NSW breakdown adds an order fee and a delivery fee that take it to $76,700, and base value counts delivery. Treat the L as a 2027 car unless your provider confirms in writing that its value is under the line.

The other three are less ambiguous. The Premium RWD at $60,700 and the Premium Long Range AWD at $70,700, both with Tesla's fees, leave room under $75,000 for an option or two, though the Long Range has only about four thousand dollars to spare. The Performance, at $86,700, has no route back under the line. On range, the L leads at 681 km, ahead of the Long Range at 600 km.

More Model Ys were sold from January to August than any other electric car in Australia, so its prices are the benchmark rivals are pitched against, and its split across two bands is why the same badge can carry two different deadlines.

The last column is the extra tax over a three-year lease from committing just after 31 March 2027 instead of just before. Salaries between $45,000 and $66,667 can show a slightly bigger figure than higher ones, because the low income tax offset phases out across that range.
