Every BYD Seal is under $75,000: full FBT exemption on a novated lease committed to by 31 March 2029, under the Treasury draft.
What to know about the BYD Seal
BYD's mid-size electric sedan costs $52,990 for the Premium and $61,990 for the Performance before on-road costs. Both carry an 82.56 kWh battery; BYD quotes 570 km for the Premium and 520 km for the Performance.
The useful comparison is with the Model 3. The cheaper versions of the two cars sit in the same FBT position, but the sporty versions part ways: Tesla's Performance is over $75,000 and has a 2027 deadline, while the Seal Performance leaves room under the line even after BYD's dealer delivery fee.
So a buyer who wants a quick electric sedan but can't get a lease signed before April 2027 keeps the whole exemption with the Seal until 2029 and loses three-quarters of it with the Tesla. Over a three-year lease that difference runs to thousands of dollars; the Model 3 page puts the Tesla's side in exact figures.
