BYD Atto 3 novated lease and the FBT cliff
under the draft

Every BYD Atto 3 is under $75,000: full FBT exemption on a novated lease committed to by 31 March 2029, under the Treasury draft.
What to know about the BYD Atto 3
Three Atto 3s are on BYD's configurator: the Essential at $39,990, the EVO Dynamic at $41,990 and the EVO Premium at $46,990, all before on-road costs. Most of the price steps go into the battery, which grows from 49.92 kWh in the Essential to 60.48 kWh and then 74.88 kWh.
BYD quotes 420 km for the EVO Dynamic and 510 km for the EVO Premium but publishes no WLTP figure for the Essential, so that cell stays blank rather than guessed. For FBT the trio sits in one place, tens of thousands of dollars below the first line, and the yearly saving creeps up only modestly with each step.
The EVO Premium and Kia's EV3 Air Long Range are close in price and identical in tax treatment, so when you weigh them, weigh the lease quotes: residual, fees and the running costs the provider builds into the payment.

Estimate only. General information, not tax advice. It uses 2026–27 tax rates and the FBT statutory formula, and assumes you pay an after-tax contribution to clear any FBT. The rules for commitments from 1 April 2027 are a Treasury exposure draft, not law, and may change. Confirm your numbers with your employer, your novated lease provider or a registered tax agent.
